Heather's apartment.....morning
"Morning," he says, sleepily.
"Good morning, yourself. Sleep well?"
"After last night, do you even have to ask?"
"I guess not," Heather says. "Last night was pretty wonderful."
"Yeah it was," says Lucas. "It was just like the old days."
"No, it wasn't, Lucas," Heather says, laying back on the bed beside him. "It was BETTER. I guess we've both grown up a lot since then."
"Yeah, I guess we have. Or at least I thought I had," Lucas says sadly.
"Lucas, what's wrong?" Heather asks. "Are you thinkin' about Emma?"
Lucas sighs. "Yeah."
Heather looks at him. "I thought you and Emma weren't really.......exclusive."
"We're not. Not really."
"Heather, it means.........yesterday, when the two of us spent the day with Michael, Heather, that was awesome. It was the absolute best day that I've had in, I don't know when. Maybe even the best day of my whole life. Not only because, for the first time, I was spending the day with my son, but with his mother, too. It felt like we were a real family. As crazy as this sounds, yesterday, it felt like we'd never been apart all these years. Everything I felt for you eight years ago, I felt again yesterday, and especially last night, making love to you....... Heather........I'm not sure is I can say that I still love you. But it's more like I've fallen in love with you all over again."
Heather fights back tears. "I have a lot of regrets in my life. But I think the thing I regret the most is choosing Bo over you. He may have been my first true love. My high school love. But he was one of the biggest mistakes I ever made."
Lucas reaches over, grabs Heather, and pulls her into another passionate kiss.
Southfork....
"Guys, I really can't thank you enough for working on a Sunday morning," Lucy tells them.
"No problem, Ms. Ewing," one of the men says. "We can all use the extra money."
"Well I really appreciate it. I just wanted the house finished by the time my Uncle and his wife return in a couple of days. And you guys will be WELL rewarded for your extra time."
"Lucy," Emma says.
"Oh, hi, Emma."
"Hi. Place is coming along nicely. Think it'll be done by the time my mother and Bobby come home?"
"It will be," Lucy says. "That's why I'm paying these guys a huge bonus to work on Sunday morning."
"Well, I've been away for a couple days visiting an old friend from London who was in Austin on business, and I just got back. Where's Lucas? His car's not here?"
"Well, I really don't know, Emma."
"It's Sunday morning, he should be home," Emma says. "He didn't say anything about where he was going?"
Lucy sighs in exasperation. "Emma, look, I'm very busy right now, and I really DON'T have time to keep tabs on my cousin Lucas."
"Well, excuse me, then," Emma says, defensively, then turns and walks out of the room.
"Hello, John Ross."
"I suppose you're lookin' for my cousin, Lucas."
"That's right."
"I see his car itn't here," John Ross says.
"So?"
John Ross smiles. "Now, I wonder where in the world he could be on a Sunday mornin'. Church?"
"John Ross, if you have something to say, I wish you'd say it, instead of this ridiculous beating around the bush."
"Well, I don't know this for sure, Emma, but, if you're lookin' for Lucas, you might wanna try Heather McCabe."
"Heather McCabe?" Emma asks. "Who the hell is......oh wait, Heather, that girl Christopher use to go out with? The one who came to Southfork for Christmas?"
"That'd be the one," John Ross replies.
"And why would she know anything about Lucas?"
"Are you kiddin' me? Do you mean to tell me Lucas still hadn't told you yet?"
"Told me what, John Ross?"
"About that kid of Heather's."
"What about him? Oh my God, John Ross, if you have something to say, then just SAY IT!"
John Ross tries to hold back a smile. "I'm sorry to be the one tell you this, Emma. And I'm even sorrier that my cousin kept this from you for so long. I really am shocked that Lucas hadn't told you that he's the father of Heather McCabe's little boy."
Emma's mouth falls open in shock at the news she's just heard....
The Wentworth mansion.....
"Hello, Helen," Brad says as he barges past the maid and into the house. "Is Miss Wentworth at home?"
"Yes, she is, but I'm afraid Miss Wentworth doesn't want to see anyone, particularly you."
"What? Why?"
"I have no idea," Helen says. "That's just what she said."
"Yeah, well, I have to talk to her," Brad says as he makes his way into the living room.
"Mr. Stone, please!" Helen says, following him.
"KATHERINE? KATHERINE, ARE YOU HERE?" Brad yells up the stairs. "WE HAVE TO TALK!"
Austin comes down the stairs. "What the hell do you want?" He asks, descending the stairs to face Brad.
"Well, she doesn't wanna see you," says Austin.
"Why the hell not? I've been calling and texting and leaving messages for two days, with no reply. What happened? Everything was fine, or so I thought."
"Well I'm gonna find out what that was," Brad says.
"No, you're gonna leave here........now, Stone. My mother doesn't want to see you."
Brad moves closer to Austin and looks him dead in the eyes. "Look, sport," he says. "You can either get the hell out of my way, or I can move you. Your choice."
After a moment's hesitation looking at Brad, Austin reluctantly steps aside.
"Wise decision," Brad says, then he heads up the stairs to see Katherine. Austin watches Brad as he walks up the stairs, seething with anger over being ordered around in his own home by another man.
Meanwhile, Katherine is relaxing in her bedroom when Brad bursts in. She quickly stands to face him. "What are you doing in here?" She asks. "I gave specific orders that I did NOT wanna be disturbed, and especially by you."
"So I was told. Your maid and your punk of a son tried to stop me, but when I wanna get into someplace, no one stops me."
"My God, you're just as insufferable as......."
"As who, Katherine?" Brad asks. "Who were you about to say?"
"No one." Katherine turns and walks across the room.
"No, come on. What were you about to say? I'm as insufferable as who?"
"As your mother," Katherine replies, turning to face him.
"As my mother?"
"Yes. She came to see me a couple days ago. Told me to stay away from you."
"This has nothing to do with your mother," Katherine says. "It has to do with me, and I simply don't want to see you again."
"But why? If this isn't about my mother, then what is it? You and I, we got along great together."
"You're simply too young for me. That's all."
"Our age difference never mattered before," Bradley says. "It never bothered you before."
"And what about our plan to bring to bring down the Ewings?" Brad asks.
"I don't need you anymore. I have Richard Channing, and he'll help me destroy the Ewings. So I don't wanna see or hear from you again."
"You bitch," Brad says. "Have it your way." He turns and walks to the door. He pauses a moment and looks at her. "I'm gonna be the one to destroy the Ewings. And if you and your new partner Channing get in my way, I'll destroy you both as well..........by any means necessary."
A moment later, Bradley storms down the stairs and into the living room of the Wentworth mansion, where Austin is waiting. After a brief pause, he walks past Austin and starts to leave.
"Well, can't say I didn't tell you she didn't wanna see you, Stone," Austin says. "Now maybe you'll go away, and leave my mother and me alone."
Brad stops short in the middle of the living room. Unable to control his anger, he turns, walks over to Austin, and punches him, knocking the young man off his feet and to the floor.
Austin stands to his feet and wipes blood from the corner of his mouth. He feels the rage building within him over the indignity he has just suffered in his own home at the hands of this outsider. In his mind, Austin begins to plan his revenge against Brad Stone.
Heather's apartment.......late afternoon
"Well, this is a really cozy little scene," Emma says angrily.
Lucas and Heather stop and turn around to face her. "Emma," says a shocked Lucas. "Emma, what are you doing here?"
"I should be asking YOU that. Just how long has this been going on? And when were you planning on telling me the wonderful news that you had become a father?"
"Michael, here," Heather says, handing her son a set of keys. "You unlock the door and go inside."
The little boy takes the key and does as he's told. Lucas and Heather watch him until he goes inside the apartment on the second floor and closes the door. Then Lucas turns back to Emma. "Look, I can explain."
"I'm sure you can. So let's hear it. Let's hear your reason for being with this tramp!"
"Tramp?" Asks an angry Heather. "How DARE you? You're a fine one to call someone else a tramp after you slept with John Ross and broke up his marriage."
"You shut the hell up," Emma says angrily.
"Emma, stop it," says Lucas. "Let me explain."
"Is it true?" Emma asks. "Are you the father of her son?"
"How long have you known?"
"Since Christmas," Lucas replies.
"Christmas? That was over a month ago, Lucas. Why haven't you told me? I suppose the whole family knows?"
Lucas sighs. "Emma, I'm sorry. Ever since I found out, I've been trying to find the right time to tell you."
The mention of his cousin's name causes Lucas's blood to boil. "John Ross? John Ross is the one who told you about this?"
"Yes. John Ross told me the truth, which is more than I can say for you." Emma starts to walk away, then looks at Lucas again, tears in her eyes. "No more secrets, huh? Isn't that what we promised each other? Nothing has changed, has it? The same secrecy that broke us up last year is still between us."
"What broke us up last year was me finding you in bed with John Ross," Lucas impulsively says as Heather looks on this dramatic scene. Lucas immediately regrets what he said when he looks at the pain in Emma's eyes. Before he can say anything, Emma turns and runs away. He sighs deeply. "Damn it. Heather, I'm sorry about that."
"Don't be," Heather says, putting a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "It's alright."
Lucas watches as Emma gets into her car and drives away.
Southfork......the cottage........later
A few minutes later....
"Afternoon, Lucas," Krystina says.
Lucas ignores Krystina's greeting and marches up to face his cousin. "John Ross, everyone thought you had changed, but you're still the same piece of scum you always were."
"Now hold on, cousin. Those are fightin' words," John Ross says.
"Lucas, what's going on?" Krystina asks.
"You know what this husband of yours did? He told Emma that I'm the father of Heather McCabe's son."
Krystina looks at her husband. "John Ross, you didn't."
"Well why the hell not?" John Ross asks. "It's the truth, itn't it?"
"Whether or not it's true is NONE of your damned business!" Says an irate Lucas. "And it was sure as hell not your place to tell Emma!"
"You sure weren't about to tell her, were you? How long's it been since you found out that kid's yours? Since Christmas?"
"You son of a bitch!" Lucas says, shoving John Ross against the wall. As John Ross rebounds and is about to push Lucas back, Lucy comes out of the house.
"John Ross, Lucas, STOP IT!" Krystina yells as the baby starts crying.
"WHAT is going on out here?" Lucy asks. "Why are you two fighting?"
"Our cousin here is mad because I told his girlfriend he's been keepin' a big secret from her since Christmas."
"You had no business telling Emma about Michael, and now she's gone. John Ross, I'm gonna rip your head off!" Lucas says.
"NO, you're not," says an angry Lucy, stepping between her two male cousins. "Now you listen to me,
The two cousins glare angrily at each other for a moment. "John Ross," Lucas finally says. "I know you only did this to get back at me for keeping the truth about Alex from you last year. You can thank your lucky stars Lucy was here, along with your wife and son. Otherwise, I'd have taken you apart. And you'd better pray I find Emma." Without another word, Lucas storms off. The three watch as he gets into his car and speeds away.
"That dude's got a worse temper than his Daddy," John Ross says. Lucy and Krystina both give him angry looks of disapproval.
Cliff's apartment....
"Cliff, I'm home," she says, walking into the apartment.
"Hi. Dinner will be ready soon," he says to her.
"Smells good."
"I hope it will be," Cliff says. "By the way, a package arrived for you a little while ago."
"A package? On Sunday?" Asks a surprised Afton.
"Yeah, special delivery. It's on the table."
Afton walks over to the table beside the sofa and picks up a small box with a card attached. She unwraps and opens the box to find a locket inside. Opening the card, she begins to read. This is yet another gift from Afton's secret admirer, who calls himself her biggest fan.
Cliff comes in from the kitchen. "Who's it from?" He asks.
Cliff takes the card from her hand and reads it. "Your biggest fan? Who's that?"
"Cliff, I just told you I have no idea."
"And you've gotten a gift like this before, from this same person?"
"Yes. A few days ago. A gift and some flowers. And like this one, the note on that also was signed by my biggest fan."
Afton looks at him, then looks at the locket in the box she holds in her hand. A chill runs down her spine as Afton isn't sure whether to be flattered or spooked by these sudden gifts from someone known simply as 'your biggest fan.'
The Omni Hotel in San Francisco.....that night
"Hello, Emma," Kevin says. "I was surprised to get your call. Happily surprised. What are you doing in San Francisco?"
Emma grabs Kevin by the collar of his jacket and pulls him into the room, then kisses him. After a moment, Emma pulls out of the kiss and walks across the room to the window. Kevin watches her with a smile on his face.
Smiling, Kevin walks over to Emma and begins kissing her passionately.
Southfork......two days later
"I can't wait to see the looks on Bobby and Ann's faces when they the newly remodeled Southfork," Sue Ellen says.
"Neither can I," Lucy says. "Donna, Sue Ellen, I really appreciate you two coming over and helping this morning."
"No problem, Lucy," Donna says.
"Sue Ellen, are you sure it was safe to leave John Ross and Lucas together at the office?" Krystina asks.
"Well, you know about Lucas's past relationship with Heather McCabe, right?"
"Yes," replies Sue Ellen. "Bobby told me all about that."
"Heather McCabe?" Donna asks. "Isn't she the young woman who came for Christmas dinner? She had that adorable little boy."
"That's her," Krystina says.
"I thought she had dated Christopher."
"She did," says Lucy. "But, she dated Lucas FIRST, several years ago. And, Lucas is the father of Heather's son."
"What?" Asks a stunned Donna. "Good grief. I had no idea. I'm sure Ray has no idea, either."
"No one did," says Sue Ellen. "But, I don't understand what this has to do with this latest rift between John Ross and Lucas."
"Lucas had not yet told Emma about his past with Heather, or about Michael being his son," replies Krystina.
"You don't have to say anymore," Sue Ellen says. "I can guess the rest. John Ross told Emma?"
"You got it," Lucy says. "Those two were ready to tangle the other day when I stopped them."
Sue Ellen shakes her head. "John Ross and Lucas remind me so much of J.R. and Bobby."
"And, the bad thing is, Emma seems to have left town," says Krystina. "She sent Lucy a text yesterday saying to tell Ann not to worry, that she just needs some time away."
At that moment, Bobby's car pulls into the drive and comes to a stop in the parking area. "Hey, they're here," Donna says.
"Oh, great," says an excited Lucy. "I can't wait for this!"
Meanwhile, Bobby and Ann get out of the car. Bobby grabs two suitcases from the back. "Well, honey, how does it feel to be home?" He ask.
"Feels great," Ann replies. "I know we were only gone a few days but it feels like we've been away from Southfork forever." Ann and Bobby walk over to the patio where they find the women.
"Welcome home, you guys," Lucy says with a smile.
"Thank you. This is some welcoming party. Sue Ellen, what are you doing here? I thought you'd be at Ewing Oil."
Sue Ellen smiles. "John Ross and Lucas have things under control."
"How was your trip?" Lucy asks. "Ann, are you feeling any better?"
"Well, come on in the house," Donna says. "We have a surprise for you."
"A surprise?" Ann asks. She looks at Bobby, who smiles. "What kind of surprise?"
"Well, honey, why don't we go on in the house and find out?" Bobby asks.
Ann nods. Then the group proceeds to the house.
"Hold on," Lucy says. "Close your eyes."
"Close my eyes? This must be SOME surprise."
"It is. Just do it."
"Come on, honey, I'll lead you," Bobby says, taking his wife by the hand.
Ann does as she is told and closes her eyes. Bobby leads her through the patio doors into the house.
"Okay, honey, open your eyes," Bobby says.
Ann opens her eyes and looks around the beautiful room. She is amazed. "I.......oh my goodness," she says. "This is absolutely beautiful."
"Surprise," Donna says.
"When.....how did you do this?"
"We had this done while you guys were gone," replies Lucy.
"Bobby, did you know about this?"
"He sure did," Lucy says. "In fact, it was Bobby's idea"
"But it was Lucy's idea to make it a surprise," says Bobby. "That's why I had to get you away for a few days, aside from the fact that you needed a vacation. I thought maybe brightening up the house, and changing a few things would make you feel better."
"Hey, this is only the beginning," Krystina says. "Take a look in here."
"Don't worry," Bobby says. "My office has been moved into the space where the dining room was. Besides, this room use to be the dining room in the old days. I think my Mama would be pleased that we put things back the way they were. And even more pleased that Lucy was in charge of this little project."
"Well, I had a lot of help from Sue Ellen, Krystina, and Donna."
"Would you like to see the den?" Sue Ellen asks.
"Of course," says Ann. She and Bobby walk across the foyer to the den. Ann stands in the doorway for
"Well, you know that old say 'money talks'?" Lucy asks. "We paid the workers a huge bonus to work a lot of overtime, even all day Sunday to get this done before you guys came back."
"Some of this furniture..........some of this was in the attic, wasn't it?"
"That's right," Bobby says. "Some of it was my Mama's furniture, and a couple pieces, like this old table here behind the sofa belonged to her mother, my Grandma Barbara Southworth."
Ann looks at them with tears. "I just don't know what to say. Thank you all."
"Ann, we love you," Sue Ellen says. "We know you've had a hard time recently, and, when you're ready to tell us, we'll be glad to listen."
"Thank you, Sue Ellen. That means the world to me to have such a lovin' family."
"Despite our dysfunction?" Lucy asks.
Ann laughs. "Yes, despite all the dysfunction."
"I can't wait for Christopher to come home tomorrow to see the new Southfork," Bobby says.
"By the way, where's Emma?" Ann asks. "I thought she would be here too."
The other women exchange looks, the smiles disappearing from their faces. Ann notices and realizes something is wrong.
"What is it?" She asks.
"Ann, don't worry, Emma's fine," Lucy says. "She's just.......out of town for now."
"Out of town? Where is she?"
"We don't know, she didn't say."
"Lucy, what's goin' on?" Ann asks.
Lucy looks at Ann, not sure what to say, knowing she needed to tell Ann the truth, but at the same time, she didn't want any bad news to ruin her homecoming.
Afton's Lounge......that evening
"Jesse, I like that ending," Afton tells him.
"Thank you, Afton. Should I keep that in, or scrap it?" Jesse asks.
"Definitely keep it. I think it adds a nice touch."
At that moment, a man walks in with a bouquet of flowers. "Excuse me, Afton Cooper?" He says, approaching Afton.
"I'm Afton Cooper. May I help you?"
"I have some flowers for you, ma'am," he says.
"Oh? From who?"
"No idea. There's a card."
"Thank you," Afton says. She takes the card from the bouquet and opens it.
"Who are they from?" Jesse asks.
"I wish I knew," Afton replies, a concerned tone in her voice.
"Afton, are you alright?"
"I'm fine, Jesse. Just fine. I'd better put these in water." Taking the flowers in her arms, she walks away. Afton is growing more spooked with each new gift she receives from her mysterious new secret admirer.
Southfork....the next day
"I really appreciate you picking me up, Ann," Christopher says. "But I could've taken a taxi."
"I was happy to do it. Your father would've love to have picked you up, but, he said he needed to get back to the office after bein' away for a few days himself."
"I can't wait to see what Lucy did to the house while I was away," he says as they get out of the SUV.
"You're gonna love it," Ann says.
"Well, what do you think?" Ann asks.
"I love it. It's beautiful. It reminds me of the way it looked when I was a kid."
"Well I'm glad it was finished so soon, because now we have two weddin's to plan and only a little more than a week to plan them."
"Yeah, so I heard," says Christopher. "I can't believe it.......Justin and Amanda, and Jill and Jay Smithfield, all getting married right here at Southfork. J.R. would be happy about that, but, maybe somebody should warn them."
"Warn them?"
"Now, Christopher, you know as well as I do that there's no such thing. And I don't want you fillin' those young peoples' head with that nonsense about a jinx on Southfork marriages."
Krystina comes down the stairs. "Christopher!" She says, happily greeting. "Hi, welcome home."
"Thanks, Krystina."
"So what do you think of the redecorating?"
"I think it's great."
"You haven't seen the dinin' room or the den yet," Ann says.
"So how was your trip to California to visit your uncle and aunt?" Krystina asks.
"It was........it was awesome," Christopher replies with a smile.
"Hey, what's that smile all about? I would almost think you met a woman out there."
"Yeah, well, that's because I did," Christopher says. "I did meet someone. And, she's one of the most intriguing women I've ever met. In fact, I think I'm in love."
Ewing Oil....
"Yes, they did, although you were missed terribly. Would you like some coffee?"
"Yes, thank you."
Sue Ellen pours him a cup and hands it to him.
"So how did your meeting with Catlin Ewing go?" Bobby asks.
"Just......fine? Come on, Sue Ellen, I have a feeling it went better than fine."
"I'm sure I don't know what you mean," she says, putting her coffee cup down.
"Well, you've been smiling almost constantly since Ann and I came home yesterday, and I don't think it's just because you're glad we're back. So, the only other reason I can think of is your trip down to Cherokee County with my cousin Catlin."
"Guilty," Sue Ellen says, smiling broadly. "Yes. I had a wonderful weekend with Catlin. as a matter of fact."
"Yes. Well, uh, when Catlin arrived in Dallas on Saturday he phoned me, and, we went out to dinner Saturday night."
"Did you, now? I take it you had a nice time?"
"Very nice. He's a very charming man."
"And handsome, too. A trait that runs in the Ewing family," Bobby says.
"Yes, he's very handsome."
"So what did the two of you talk about over dinner? I mean, if it's not too personal?"
"I told him about my life. And he told me about his. And he also told me that he's thinking about possibly moving his company here to Texas."
"Really, well that'd be great," says Bobby.
"Yes it would."
"I'd better get back to my desk, I have a stack of papers waiting for me to look them over. Sue Ellen, it's real nice to see ya smile like that again."
"Thank you, Bobby."
He smiles at her, then leaves the break room.
Motel 6 in Dallas....
"Mandy," Jeremy Shepherd says. "Well, this sure is a surprise."
"Yeah, why not. Come on in."
Amanda walks past her brother and into the motel room. She looks around as Jeremy closes the door.
"So what are you doin' here?" Jeremy asks.
"I came to..........I came to see Cal. Is he here?"
"Cal? Can't even stand to call him Dad, can ya?"
"Is he here?"
"No. He went down for some ice. He'll be right back."
"Good. So, Jeremy, how are you?"
"I'm okay. But do you really care how I am?"
"Of course, I care," Amanda says. "You're my brother, despite the fact that we don't really even know each other."
At that moment, Calvin Shepherd walks into the room. He is surprised to see his daughter.
"Hello, Cal."
"Never thought I'd see you here. Did that boyfriend of yours tell you he came by to see me?"
"Yes, he did," Amanda says. "That's why I'm here. Justin made me do a lot of thinking. And, he made me realize that I needed to see you. And Jeremy, too."
"Well, I'm real glad. And I'm indebted to that young man. Mandy, I really AM sorry. For ever'thing. For all I put you and your mama through, and for walkin' out."
Amanda sighs. "I, umm, Justin and I are getting married. A week from Saturday, at Southfork. You're both invited, if you're still in Dallas."
"Oh we'll be there, baby girl."
Amanda looks at her father and nods. "I use to hate you. I hated you for a long time. Especially when Mom was sick and there was no one there to help me take care of her. And when we had to rely on the man Mom use to work for to help us, instead of my own father."
"I know, Mandy, and I feel read bad about that," Cal says. "I can't change the past, the things I've done. But I would like the chance to maybe make up for it if I can. If you'd let me. And sweetheart, even if you still hate me, that aint no reason for you to hate your brother there. Jeremy, he was just a little kid, too, when I walked out on you and your mama. Even if I am never a part of the equation, I'd like nothin' better than to see my son and my daughter get to know one another."
Amanda looks at her brother, then back to her father. "I'd like that, too," she says.
The Ryland home.....that night
"Hello, Harris. I need to see my mother. Is she here?"
"Yes, she is. We were just finishin' up dinner. Come in."
"Thanks," Lucas says, walking into the house.
Jenna walks into the foyer. "Lucas," she says, smiling upon seeing her son.
"Hi, Mom," he says, walking over to her.
"I'm very happy to see you. I don't see nearly enough of you these days."
"I need to talk to you."
"Well, I'll just leave you two alone," Harris says.
"No, you don't have to go, Harris," Lucas says.
Harris and Jenna exchange looks. "Well why don't we go in and have a seat?" Harris suggests. The three
"No, Mom, I'm fine."
"Lucas, this sounds serious," Jenna says. "Is anything wrong? Is it Charlie?"
"No, no. Everything's fine. I spoke to Charlie just yesterday and she's doing great."
"Oh, good. You had me worried for a moment," Jenna says. "So what is it?"
"Well, Mom, I have some news," says Lucas.
"News? Good or bad?"
"Well, it's wonderful to me, and I hope you'll think so, too."
"Well, why don't you just tell me and let me decide for myself?"
"Another grandson?" Jenna asks. "I don't understand."
"I found out a little while back that, I have a son, Mom. He's almost 7, and his name is Michael. Michael McCabe."
"Oh, Lucas, I........I don't know what to say. The child, is he here? In Dallas?"
"Yes, he is. I spent some time with him and his mother this weekend. Mom, Michael's a really great kid. I have a picture on my phone." Lucas takes his cell phone from his pocket, opens up his photo gallery and shows a picture of Michael to Jenna. She looks at the picture of the little boy and smiles.
"Lucas," she says, tears coming to her eyes. "Oh he's adorable. He looks so much like you did at that age."
"I was hoping you'd be pleased."
"How could I not be? He's a lovely child. My grandson. My second grandson. When do I get to meet him?"
"Well, how about this Saturday?" Lucas asks. "His mother, Heather, works during the week and she usually has weekends off. I can arrange for her and Michael to meet us someplace."
"Yes. I would love that."
"Yeah, she knows."
"And how'd she take the news?"
Lucas sighs. "Not very well, I'm afraid. In fact, Emma has left town. I think our relationship may be over for good this time."
Jenna smiles. "Well, I certainly can't say that makes me unhappy."
Smithfield And Bennett......the next morning
"Well, good morning to you, too, cousin," Jay says. "Now, would you mind telling me why you came bursting in here with such a question?"
"You're actually going to marry John Ross Ewing's sister?" Todd asks. "The sister of the man who destroyed my life, and who's the reason my little brother, your own cousin, is in a mental hospital right now?"
"And you're gonna marry her at Southfork? The Ewing family's home?"
"That's right."
"Well you can just cross me off that damned guest list," Todd says.
"Is that what you really want?" Jay asks.
"It is. Because I will NOT set foot on one piece of land owned by the Ewing family."
"Do you know how ridiculous you sound right now?" Jay asks. "Yes, what John Ross did to you was absolutely despicable. There's no denying that. Even his own family thought what he did was despicable. But John Ross is only ONE member of that family. He's the one you have a problem with, so how can you blame the rest of the Ewings for what John Ross did to you?"
"Because those people are all the same."
"The hell they are," Jay says, standing. He walks over to his cousin. "Bobby Ewing has never been anything but a good friend to our family. He's a good man. So's Christopher. So's Justin. And so is Lucas. And Jill is the most amazing woman you'd ever wanna meet if you'd just let go of this hate and bitterness you still feel and just get to know her."
Todd looks at him for a moment. "Remember when we were kids? Remember how we use to plan our weddings? Or rather, you did all the talking. I kept my mouth shut because I knew even then that I'd probably never have a wedding or be able to get married. But remember how you use to say you wanted me to be your best man?"
"I still do," Jay says.
"I'm sorry, Jay. But I'm not coming to that wedding. Not at Southfork."
"If that's the way you want, then fine. Don't come."
"Don't worry, I won't," Todd says. He turns and starts to leave.
"You know, Todd," Jay says. Todd stops and turns back to him. "You said John Ross destroyed your life? Well, you're only partly right there. John Ross does share half the blame. But you share the other half. If you had just been honest with the family and with everyone else, John Ross never would've been able to come up with anything to blackmail you with in the first place."
"Yeah, well, that's REAL easy for you to say. Because unlike me, you never had to deal with being gay and being scared to death of how your family would react if they found out. And you never had to worry about losing the one thing you'd wanted since you were a kid, and that's a political career. So this 'honesty' thing you talk about.....that's real easy for you, Jay, because you're so perfect. You're what a Smithfield is supposed to be." Todd storms out of the office.
Jay sighs deeply after his cousin leaves.
Ewing Oil....
"John Ross, what the HELL are you up to now?" He angrily asks.
"Uncle Bobby, won't you come in?" John Ross says sarcastically.
"Bobby, what's wrong?" Asks Sue Ellen.
"Sue Ellen, are you aware that John Ross has purchased half of a field down in Waco that is co-owned by Marilee Stone's son Bradley?"
Sue Ellen looks at her son. "John Ross, I thought I told you not to go in on that field with Bradley Stone."
"John Ross, I can't believe you did that after I explicitly told you I did not want Ewing Oil doing business with Bradley Stone."
"I know," John Ross says. "Mama told me all about the circumstances surroundin' Seth Stone's suicide."
"Look, I understand your concerns," John Ross says. "But I'm goin' into this with my eyes open. And don't worry. I use some of my own personal funds to buy into this field. I had my eye on it for a while."
"John Ross," Bobby says, then pauses.
"Look, Uncle Bobby, everything is gonna be okay. I promise. I'll take full responsibility.
"Maybe there's no harm in this, Bobby," Sue Ellen says. "I mean, Ewing Oil could make a lot of money on this Waco field."
"It WILL make a lot of money on that field," John Ross says.
Sue Ellen stands from her seat across from John Ross's desk and looks at her son. "John Ross, that was a really stupid thing you did. You're walking a very thin line. You'd better watch yourself, or Bobby might just decide that you don't belong at Ewing Oil." Without another word to her son, Sue Ellen walks out of the office.
Southfork......that night
"I can't thank you guys enough for helping Jill and I plan this double wedding," says Amanda.
"Oh, it's our pleasure," Ann says with a smile.
"Since Cally isn't here right now, I'm very proud to be able to help with the wedding plans," Sue Ellen says.
"Sue Ellen, I can't tell you what that means to me," says Amanda. "I mean, considering our history, and that I was married to John Ross."
"Well, everything has worked out exactly as it should have. You and John Ross have both moved on and found true love. John Ross and Krystina are very happy together."
"And my mother wanted to be here tonight, but she wasn't feeling well," Jill says.
"I'm sorry to hear that," says Ann. "I hope it's nothing serious."
"No, she's just fighting off a cold."
"Good. Now, I think we should set up the flowers right here," Ann says, as the women look at a photo of the patio and pool area.
Krystina walks into the room. "Hi, how's it going?" She asks.
"Very well," replies Sue Ellen. "I think this double wedding is going to a huge success."
"I'd be happy to help in any way."
Jill and Amanda exchange looks, then Jill stands and walks over to her. "Krystina, thank you. We really appreciate it, and we can use all the help we can get, especially since you are the most recent bride here. So please, join us."
Krystina smiles. "Thank you, Jill. You too, Amanda."
Southfork....the next morning
"Morning," he says.
"Morning, son," says Bobby.
"I guess I'm still on California time. I didn't wanna get outta bed this morning."
"You know, you never did tell us about the young woman you met in California," Ann says.
"What's this about a young woman?" Bobby asks.
Christopher looks at his father and smiles. "I met someone when I was in Knots Landing."
"Really?" Lucy asks. "Tell us about her."
"How'd you meet her?" Lucy asks.
"Actually, she was visiting the people next door to your parents. Mack and Karen MacKenzie. Erin is Karen's goddaughter."
"Sounds like you're really taken with this girl," Bobby says.
"I am, Dad. It's hard to explain. I just met Erin, but I feel this.......connection with her. It was instant attraction, and the more time I spent with her, the more I came to care for her."
"Well, if you spent all this time with Erin Ward, how'd you ever have time to do any work with my little brother?" Lucy asks.
Christopher laughs slightly. "Oh, trust me, Bobby and I got the work done."
"Christopher, I'm real happy for you," says Ann.
"Thank you. How are things going with the wedding planning?"
"Just fine."
"I was thinking," says Christopher. "I might wanna invite Erin to the wedding. Ask her to be my date."
"Are you sure that's wise, son?" Bobby asks. "After all, Charlie will most likely be at the wedding. Wouldn't it be kinda awkward?"
"Well, y'know what, Dad? If it's awkward, it's just awkward. After all, Charlie's the one who ended our relationship, so I'm perfectly free to move in with someone else."
Marilee Stone's mansion.....
"Good morning, George," Brad says.
"Good morning, Mr. Stone."
"Has my mother returned from her trip?"
"Yes, she has, sir. She's upstairs. I'll let her know you're here. You can wait in the living room."
"Thank you," Brad says. He walks into the living room just off the foyer. He looks around the elegantly
"Well, good morning, darling," she says to her son. "What brings you by so early?"
"I was on my way to the office, and I wanted to see if you were back from your trip."
"I got back to Dallas late yesterday," Marilee says.
"So, I take it you're planning on staying in town for a while?" Bradley asks.
"Yes. I figured it was time I came home. I'm glad I never sold the house here. I always felt I might want to come back some day. Now, then, what's going on with you?"
"I wanted to talk to you. Mother, what the hell business is it of yours who I see and who I spend my time with? You had no right to go to Katherine Wentworth and order her to stay away from me."
"You spoke to her, did you?" Marilee asks.
"Damned right, I did."
"And just what did she tell you?"
"That you came to see her and told her to stay away from me."
"Is that all?" Marilee asks, walking across the room.
"What do you mean, is that all?" Asks an angry Brad.
"Bradley, I did what I thought was best for my son. Katherine Wentworth is no good."
"Who the hell are you to decide that for me?"
"The woman is old enough to be your mother," says Marilee.
"Oh, and that guy you brought home that time I came to visit you from boarding school after you moved to France? He couldn't have been more than a few years older than me."
"Katherine Wentworth is a criminal, Bradley. The woman gunned Bobby Ewing down in cold blood, then tried to frame her own brother for the crime."
"Katherine was sick back then," Bradley says. "She was pardoned last year by the governor for everything."
"Yes, after she spent thirty years on the run. Besides, the governor who pardoned her has since been forced to resign from office, so what does THAT tell you?"
"Bradley....."
"You know, this sudden burst of motherly concern doesn't become you at all, and it's too little, too late. I could've used it when I was 8, not 38." Bradley looks at his mother angrily for a moment, then turns and walks out of the room.
After he's gone, Marilee walks over to a table and picks up her phone. She dials a number, then waits for an answer. On the fourth ring, a man answer. "Wes, this is Marilee. Listen, I have a favor to ask you. Of course, you'll be paid very well. But I want you to make this your top priority. I want you to dig into the past of a woman named Katherine Wentworth. Yes, that's the one. The very same Katherine Wentworth who tried to kill Bobby Ewing back in '84. She was on the run, a fugitive from justice from late 1984 until just about a year ago, when she was pardoned for her crimes by the governor. Wes, I want you to find out all you can about where Katherine Wentworth was, and what she was up to durin' those thirty years she was a fugitive. It might be a difficult job, as I'm sure she was usin' various assumed names. But all I know is, she has a son named Austin Wentworth, who was born, oh, I guess around 1993 or '94. Start with findin' out where the kid was born, and who his father is." Marilee puts down the phone and smiles.
Ewing Oil....later
"Well, I set up a meeting for the middle of next week with some people who might be interested in contributing to the Foundation," Jimmy says. "One is a Mrs. Blanchard, she's the widow of a former professor at SMU. She was impressed when I told her I'm a student there."
"Uh-huh," Justin says, seemingly uninterested.
"Jitters?" Justin asks. "Jitters duttin' even begin to describe how nervous I am, bro."
"Nervous? But why? You and Amanda have been together for quite a while now. All you're doing is making it official."
Justin lets out a deep sigh as he stands from his seat. "I know. It's just.......standin' up there in front of all our fam'ly and friends........I don't do real well with crowds. Never have."
Jimmy smiles. "Well don't worry. Jill and Jay are gonna be going through the same thing, and I'm gonna be right up there by your side. That is, if you still want me to be your best man."
"Wouldn't dream of it," says a smiling Jimmy. "You're a lucky man, Justin."
"Don't I know it? It's like, this past year, my whole life has just fallen into place. I don't know what I did to get so lucky. I come here with nothin'. Then, I come into that money and stock from J.R.'s will. I fall in love with the most beautiful woman in the world, I buy us a ranch, and then, John Ross asks me to head up this Foundation. Now, me and Amanda are gettin' married. Jimmy, this whole thing, it.......it scares me."
"Scares you?" Jimmy asks.
"Yeah. It's almost like everything is goin' TOO perfect. I'm just scared it's all gonna end. Like everything that's fallen into place is just gonna come crashin' down around me."
Jimmy walks over and puts a reassuring hand on Justin's shoulder. "Bro, that's NOT gonna happen. Do you know why things are going so great for you and Amanda? It's because you deserve it. Justin, you're one of the good guys. One of the best people I know. So is Amanda. Sometimes, good things DO happen to good people who deserve it. And nothing's gonna ruin it, so just sit back and relax and enjoy the life you're building with the woman you love. And, after you're married, you two get to work on giving me another little cousin."
Justin looks at him and smiles. "Thanks, Jimbo. Now I know why you're my best friend. Because you always know the right thing to say to make me feel better."
"I'm just returning the favor, man. How many times have you done the same for me?"
"Too many to count," Justin says jokingly. "Hey, let's get out of here and go to lunch? The Cattlemen's?"
"I was just thinking the same thing," says Jimmy. "I'm starving. I didn't have any breakfast."
"See, bro, that's why you need a good woman, to make your breakfast every morning," Justin says as he and Jimmy leave the office.
Perry's Steakhouse And Grille......that night
"Thank you," Cliff says to the young man.
"My pleasure, sir. Is there anything else I can get for you?"
"No, I think we're fine. Marilee?"
"I'm just fine," Marilee says. The young man smiles and walks away. "Cliff, I really appreciate you treatin' me to dinner tonight."
"Oh, it's my pleasure, Marilee," Cliff says with a smile. "I didn't feel like sitting at home alone on a Friday night, with Afton at her club."
"Cliff, I must say that I'm very surprised that you and Afton are living together again."
"Well, don't get the wrong idea, Marilee. It's strictly platonic."
"Believe me, it's not by my choice. And it's not for lack of my trying to win her back, but, Afton seems to think that the two of us work better as friends, and as.......platonic roommates."
"That must drive you crazy."
"Oh, it does. Which is why I wanted to have dinner with a beautiful woman tonight, who also happens to be an old friend."
"Well, I propose a toast," Marilee says, raising her glass. "To old friends."
"To old friends," Cliff says, raising his glass.
Meanwhile, John Ross and Krystina walk into the restaurant with Alex. The restaurant's hostess approaches them.
"Good evening Mr. Ewing," she says. "Mrs. Ewing."
"Good evening, Tammy," says John Ross. "Our usual table, please."
"Right this way." Tammy grabs three menus and leads the three across the crowded restaurant. On the way, they pass by Cliff and Marilee's table, and John Ross just can't but stop by.
"Well, well, Cliff Barnes," John Ross says. "You mean they actually let you out at night."
"Yes. Hello, John Ross," Marilee says. "It's been a long time."
"It sure has. I know you been gone from Dallas a real long time, Ms. Stone, but, I'd think you'd be able to do better in your choices of dinner companions."
"John Ross, why don't you just take your wife and your kid and go away?" Cliff asks, annoyed.
"Your kid?" Marilee asks. "I don't believe I've ever met this young man."
"Marilee Stone, this is my wife, Krystina, and my son, Alex."
"Handsome boy, John Ross. Good looks certainly run in the Ewing genes."
John Ross smiles. "Thank ya, Marilee. Now if you'll excuse us, our table is waitin'. Oh, and by the way, Cliff, how are you enjoyin' your little forced retirement since you got kicked outta Westar?"
Cliff quickly stands to face him. "John Ross, I'm gonna say this just one time......get the HELL away from me. NOW!"
"John Ross, come on," Krystina says, tugging on her husband's arm.
"Y'all have a good night, now," John Ross says with a smile, then turns and walks away.
Cliff retakes his seat across from Marilee. "I tell you, every time I see John Ross Ewing, I get so mad I could chew nails."
"This sure reminds me of the old days, with you and J.R."
"Yeah, I don't know who annoyed me more......J.R. or that demon seed of his."
Meanwhile, John Ross, Krystina, and Alex take their seats at their table, John Ross smile smiling ear to ear over having gotten under Cliff's skin.
"John Ross, excuse me," Krystina says. "I have to visit the ladies' room. If the waitress comes, order me the house special."
"You got it, darlin'," John Ross says as his wife walks away.
John Ross looks at the boy with a smile. "Son, that was called playing cat and mouse. A Ewing is always the cat and a Barnes is always the mouse. Ya might wanna remember that someday."
Marilee. "Cliff, would you like to just go someplace else, so maybe we can have dinner in peace?"
Before Cliff can answer her question, Katherine and Austin walk over. "My, my," Katherine says. "Cliff Barnes and Marilee Stone. It's getting so these restaurants will let just anybody in these days."
"Apparently so, if they let a criminal like you in," says Cliff.
"For now?" Cliff asks. "What the hell is that supposed to mean? Is that some kind of veiled threat?"
"Cliff, you know me better than that. I don't make veiled threats. In fact, I don't make threats at all. Only promises."
"Katherine, get lost," Cliff says.
"Hope you both have a pleasant dinner," Katherine says. "Oh, and Marilee......give Bradley my love." Still smiling, Katherine and Austin walk away.
Marilee is so angered by Katherine's mention of her son's name that she slams her fork down on the table.
"Cliff, why don't we just get the hell out of here?" She asks.
"Good idea. I've lost my appetite now."
"You take care of the check," says Marilee. "I have to go powder my nose."
"Alright," Cliff says.
Marilee gets up from her seat and heads toward the ladies' room, passing by Katherine and Austin's table. She stops when she reaches them and looks at Katherine. "I wanna talk to you in the ladies. Now." Marilee abruptly walks away and goes into the ladies' room.
"What's going on?" Austin asks. "What could she possibly wanna talk to you about?"
"Only one way to find out," Katherine says. She gets up and walks to the ladies room, going in behind Marilee. Katherine walks in and finds Marilee standing by one of the mirrors. The two women appear to be the only ones in the ladies' room, but they are unaware that Krystina is in one of the stalls. "Alright, what do you want?" Katherine asks.
"How dare you mention my son's name," Marilee says angrily.
"Oh my God. Is THAT what you summoned me into the bathroom to say to me?"
"Katherine, I spoke to my son. You did the wise thing in pushing Bradley away from you. But from now, don't ever mention my son's name again, and especially not in front of Cliff."
"What's the matter, Marilee?" Katherine asks. "Are you afraid that I'm going to repeat that lie you told me in front of Cliff? Afraid that if I let it slip that you told me Bradley is his son, that Cliff would burst your
"You listen to me and you listen good," Marilee says to Katherine as Krystina listens from the stall. "If you EVER utter one word of what I told you about Bradley's paternity to ANYONE, especially Cliff or Bradley, you will be sorry, and that, I can promise."
Katherine smiles. "You know, Marilee, your little threats really are getting so boring."
Without warning, Marilee grabs Katherine by the throat and forces her against a wall. "If you think for one minute that I'm bluffin'........just try me," she says, one hand around Katherine's throat and the other she uses to pin Katherine's arm against the wall. Hearing some other women entering the ladies' room, Marilee quickly released her grip on Katherine. She looks at her angrily for a moment, then walks out of the restroom as three other women walk in, chatting away about some of Dallas's latest gossip.
Katherine composes herself, then leaves the ladies' room herself. Krystina opens the stall and peaks out. Seeing only the three other women, she quickly washes her hands, then slips out of the ladies' room herself.
A moment later, as John Ross and Alex are talking about Alex's week at school, Krystina returns to their table and takes a seat.
"Everything okay, darlin'?" John Ross asks. "You were gone quite a while."
"Yes," replies a nervous Krystina. "Everything is just fine." She smiles at her husband, then picks up her menu and looks at it.
Southfork.....later
"Krystina, what's wrong?" John Ross asks, putting the papers down on the nightstand. "I could tell somethin' was botherin' you at dinner."
Krystina sighs. "You're right. Something is bothering me. I couldn't talk to you about this in front of Alex."
"Well what is it?"
"When I went to the ladies' room before we had dinner, I overheard the strangest conversation."
"Oh?" John Ross asks. "About what?"
"About.......Bradley Stone."
"About Stone?"
"Yeah," replies Krystina. "That woman we saw having dinner at the restaurant with Cliff Barnes, Marilee Stone, she was talking to Katherine Wentworth."
"You sure it was Katherine?"
"Yes. They were talking about Marilee's son, Bradley, and.........I couldn't believe what I overheard."
"Well, sweetheart, what the hell did you overhear?" John Ross asks.
"They were talking about.......well, they said that Bradley is Cliff Barnes's son."
"What?" John Ross asks. "Darlin', are you sure you heard right?"
"Positive. They were arguing about it, and Marilee threatened Katherine not to tell anyone, especially not Cliff or Bradley."
John Ross starts to laugh. "Well, I'll be damned," he says, getting out of bed. "Let's see, Brad Stone is a year older than me, so that means that........well, I'll just be damned. Looks like my Mama wuttin' the only filly in Cliff Barnes's stable back in the day. How about that?"
"John Ross, what are you thinking?" Krystina asks.
A park in Dallas....the next day
"Your mother is really good with him," Heather says.
"Yeah, she is. Seeing her with Michael, playing like that, so carefree, it reminds me of when I was a kid."
"It's amazing how he's taken to her. Not surprisin' though. He never really had a grandmother."
Jenna lets Michael play by himself for a while as she walks from the playground up the hill to where Lucas and Heather are.
"Looks like you made a new friend, Mom," Lucas says.
"You're welcome, Mrs. Krebbs."
"It's Miss Wade. I've decided now that Ray and I have been divorced for a while and he's with Donna and I'm with Harris, that, I'm going back to my maiden name of Jenna Wade. I think it's time that I finally put that part of my life behind me."
"Mom!" Michael calls to Heather from the playground.
"I'll be back," Heather says to Lucas and Jenna, then hurries down to the playground to find out what her son wants.
"Do you really like him, Mom?" Lucas asks Jenna.
"Of course. Not only is he absolutely adorable, but he's also one of the sweetest children I've ever met."
"He certainly is a special little boy. I can tell that already."
"And what do you think of Heather?" Lucas asks.
"She seems like a very nice girl. Why, Lucas? Are things getting serious between the two of you?"
"Truthfully, Mom, yes. I think they are. Being with Heather and Michael these last couple weeks, I can't remember when I've been this happy. I can't explain it, but, it's like I feel complete."
"Lucas, I can't say that I'm unhappy about this," Jenna says. "I only just met Heather and I already like her better than I ever did Emma." Jenna and Lucas watch Heather with Michael for a moment, then Lucas turns to her son again. "You're in love with her, aren't you?"
"Yeah, Mom. I loved her seven years ago, and, I dunno. I guess maybe I never really stopped loving Heather."
Jenna reaches out and takes her son by the hand.
Southfork....
"Mr. Ewing, we got a calf down, in the creek bed over on two stick," comes the voice of one of the ranch hands over the walkie talkie.
"Alright, thanks, Mike, one of us'll head on over," Bobby tells him.
"I'll take care of it, Dad," Christopher tells his father.
"Alright, son," says Bobby. "Take one of the boys with you."
"Sure. Hey, LONNIE!" Christopher yells to one of the hands up ahead. "Calf down! Come with me!"
Lonnie, a young hand of about 21, turns on his horse, and he and Christopher gallop off toward Southfork's Two-Stick Pasture.
"Justin, I really appreciate you helpin' out over here today," Bobby says to his nephew.
"Yeah, speakin' of which, how does it feel to know that this time next Saturday you and Amanda will be standin' up in front of that preacher sayin' your vows?"
Justin smiles. "Well, Uncle Bobby, I'd be lyin' if I said I wuttin' nervous as heck, because I am."
"Well, son, trust me, it never gets any easier. I've had four weddings, and I was nervous just before all of 'em."
"Four?" Justin asks. "I thought Ann was your third wife?"
"She is. But my first wife Pam and I, Christopher's mother, we were married twice. First time we eloped, and we were married for five years, then we divorced. Three years later Pam and I were remarried right here on Southfork."
"So it never gets easier, huh?" Justin asks.
"It's my pleasure, Justin. Y'know, since J.R. isn't able to be here for you, I kinda feel like it's my place to step in and be here for you. And I'm more'n happy to do so."
"Means a lot. Chris and Lucas are real lucky to have you as their father."
Bobby smiles at the compliment. "I think I'm pretty lucky myself," he says as they continue on moving the cattle.
Todd Baxter's apartment....
"Can I come in?" Jay asks.
"Sure. Why the hell not," Todd says as he turns and walks back into the living room.
Jay walks in and closes the door. "How are you?"
Todd takes a seat on the sofa. "Just great," he says, his tone full of sarcasm. "So what do you want?"
"I came here hoping I could talk some sense into you," Jay says.
"Some sense? Into ME?" Asks Todd.
"Yeah, man. Look, you're my cousin. And not only that, you're my best friend, Todd. One week from today I'm gonna be standing up in front of my family and friends to marry the woman I love. I know how you feel about John Ross, and about the rest of the Ewings. But Todd, I really want you there at my wedding. I know I could never ask you to be my best man, not under the circumstances. But I DO want you there. It just wouldn't feel right without my best friend."
"Your father is sitting in prison because he murdered a man, Todd," says Jay.
"And why do you think he did that, cousin?" Todd asks. "It's because of what Jack Ewing did to him."
"And what about your mother?" Jay asks. "Do you hold her completely blameless for having an affair with Jack Ewing? Look, Todd, I didn't come here to fight with you or rehash old family history yet AGAIN. I just came here to extend another invitation to my wedding, so that my cousin and best friend can share the happiest day of my life with me. But I see that you're still so filled with hate and anger that I'm just wasting my time." Jay walks to the door and opens it. As he starts to leave, he turns back to his cousin. "The invitation is still there if you want it. I hope to see you at the wedding." Jay quickly leaves. After he's gone, Todd stands to his feet and walks to the window. Looking out over the city of Dallas, he sighs deeply as Todd's words echo through his head.
Marilee Stone's house....
"I'm here to see Marilee Stone," John Ross says.
"May I say who's calling, sir?"
"John Ross Ewing," Marilee says as she comes down the stairs and enters the foyer. "It's alright, George, thank you."
George nods to his mistress, then walks away.
"Well, John Ross," Marilee says. "This is certainly a surprise."
"I'm just fine, John Ross. What can I do for you?"
"I just came by to personally extend an invitation to you and your son to attend the double weddin' of my half-brother, Justin Ewing to Amanda Shepherd, and my half-sister, Jillian Cryder to Jay Smithfield at Southfork next Saturday."
Marilee smiles. "You want Bradley and me to attend the wedding of your brother and sister? At Southfork?"
"Yes, ma'am I sure do."
"Why? What's the catch?"
"What makes you think there's a catch?" John Ross asks.
John Ross smiles. "Well, you're right. I do have an ulterior motive."
"That's what I thought," says Marilee. "Okay, let's hear it."
"Well, recently, your son Bradley's company, Stone Oil, sold half of an oil field down in Waco to Ewing Oil, so, since the Ewings and the Stones are gonna be doin' business again like in the old days, I thought it was time our families mingled socially."
"You and my son are partners on a field?" Marilee asks, surprised.
"That's right. So how about it? Next Saturday, three o'clock?"
"I can't answer for my son, but I would love to attend. I had heard that two more of J.R.'s...........offspring........were in Dallas, so I'm very curious to see them."
"Fine. See you one week from today." John Ross walks to the door, then turns back to Marilee and smiles. "I have a feelin' this might be the beginnin' of a beautiful new business relationship between the Stones and the Ewings." John Ross winks at her, then leaves.
Marilee shakes her head after John Ross is gone, wondering what he's up to, and if the rumors are true that J.R.'s son is every bit as devious as he was.
Southfork.....one week later
"Everything alright in here?" Ann asks.
"Everything's just fine," Cally replies. "Except that my future daughter-in-law is just a bundle of nerves."
"Amanda, everything is gonna be just fine," says Ann.
"Why are they still hammering down there?" Amanda asks.
"Just puttin' some finishin' touches on the platform, that's all. Things were runnin' a little behind schedule, but everything'll be finished in time, I promise."
Amanda lets out a deep sigh. "I'm sorry if I seem............nervous. It's because I AM."
"You're kidding," Amanda says. "Cliff Barnes and the McKays under the same roof as the Ewings?"
"Yeah, like I said, it was QUITE a day," says Cally.
"Bobby's told me that story several times," Ann says.
The smile disappears from Amanda's face. "A storm, huh?"
"Honey, don't worry," Ann says. "It's a clear, gorgeous day out there, and nothin' is gonna spoil this day for the two brides and two grooms."
"I wonder if Jill is as nervous as I am," Amanda says.
Meanwhile, next door in John Ross and Krystina's bedroom, Kimberly Cryder is helping her daughter get her hair ready for the wedding, along with a professional hairdresser.
"What do you think, Miss Cryder?" The hairstylist asks.
Jill looks in the mirror as her mother stands behind her. "It looks great, Tess. Mom, what do you think?"
"I love it," Kimberly replies.
"Tess, thank you," says Jill.
Tess smiles at the bride. "You're welcome. Now, I'll go and check on the other bride. Let me know if I can do anything else."
"Thank you, Tess, we certainly will," Kimberly says. Tess smiles, then quietly leaves the room. Kimberly puts her arms around her daughter. "You are going to make an absolutely beautiful bride."
Jill turns to face her mother. "Thank you, Mom. For everything."
Kimberly smiles and strokes her daughter's head. "That's what mothers are for. Darling, I know that I haven't been the best mother to you. I kept the truth from you about who your real father was, and I deprived you of the chance to get to know him."
"Oh, yes, my darling. I think you have chosen a wonderful young man for yourself."
"I'm glad you like him," says Jill. "Do you........do you think that J.R. would've liked him?"
"I'm not sure, sweetheart," Kimberly replies. "That's hard to say. J.R. really didn't like too many people. Come on, Jillian. Let's get you dressed and ready to marry your young Mr. Smithfield."
A short time later....
"Hi, Bob, Ann," says Ray.
"Hello, Ray, Donna," Bobby says, kissing Donna on the cheek.
"Ann, you look wonderful," Donna says.
"Thank you, Donna, so do you. Thank goodness the weather is nice today."
"Southfork looks beautiful," Ray says.
"Ray, Donna, would you excuse me for a minute?" Bobby asks.
"Sure, Bob," Ray says.
"I'll talk to ya later." Bobby walks over to greet Mavis Anderson and her grandson Scott. "Mavis, how are you?" Bobby asks.
"Bobby, I'm just fine, for a woman my age," replies Mavis.
"Well, you certainly look good."
"Mavis, hello, how are you?" Donna asks.
"Oh, Donna, i'm doing well. How are you and Ray?"
"Just fine."
"And where is that handsome husband of yours?" Mavis asks, eliciting looks of concern from Bobby, Ray, and Donna.
"Mavis, Ray is right here," Donna says.
"Oh, Ray, I'm sorry, I didn't see you there."
"It's fine, Mavis," Ray says.
"Mavis, why don't you and I go over and sit on the patio until the wedding starts?" Donna asks. "We can catch up."
"I would like that," the elderly woman says.
Donna exchanges a concerned look with Bobby and Ray, then leads Mavis away to the patio.
"I'm really sorry about that, Mr. Krebbs," Scott Anderson says.
"It's alright," says Ray.
"Scott, I don't mean to pry, but, is your grandmother okay?" Bobby asks. "I noticed at the Oil Baron's Ball back in December, she didn't seem herself. And she mistook Ann for my first wife, Pam."
"No, Mr. Ewing," the young man replies sadly. "I'm afraid my grandmother isn't okay. She started having moments of confusion last spring. At first there were only a few times, and they were spread out over weeks. The family, we just chalked it up to her being 87-years-old. Just normal forgetfulness. But, as time passed it got worse. Then, just before Thanksgiving, the doctor ran some tests, and, my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. The illness is progressing rapidly."
Bobby and Ray exchange looks, the sadness on their faces evident upon hearing the news of their old friend's diagnosis.
"I checked on both brides earlier, and they're both beautiful," Sue Ellen says.
"I sure hope my brother and sister have better luck with their marriages than I did after gettin' married here at Southfork," John Ross says, taking a sip of a bourbon.
"Yes, well, John Ross, I mean no offense, but that whole mess with Pamela was YOUR fault and not the fault of some supposed curse on couples who marry at Southfork. If you hadn't fooled around with Emma....."
"Mama, do we REALLY have to bring that up again?" John Ross asks.
"Sorry. Speaking of Emma, I don't see her around. Where is she?" Sue Ellen asks.
"Emma is in California," replies John Ross.
"California?"
"Well, that's interesting. I'm guessing it had something to do with you telling Emma about Lucas's son?"
"Well, I can't take all the credit, Mama. I had a little help from Lucas. He's the one that kept his little son a secret from the woman he was supposed to love. And imagine, that guy's always on my back, judgin' me for the things I do. Seems my cousin Lucas itn't all that perfect himself."
Alex walks over to John Ross and Sue Ellen at that moment. "Hey, guys," he says.
"Hello, sweetheart," Sue Ellen says to her grandson. "You look wonderful."
"Thanks. John Ross, do you know if the Beaumonts are coming?"
"No idea," John Ross replies.
Meanwhile, Amanda's father, Cal Shepherd, and her brother Jeremy have arrived at the wedding and are walking around, looking at the other guests.
"I never felt so outta place in my life as I do here," says Jeremy.
"Yeah, I know what ya mean, son, but you just shut your mouth and grin and bear it," Cal says. "After all, this is your sister's weddin', and we may as well get use to this high livin'. Hell, I could get use to livin' in a place like this with all that money REAL quick."
"Mr. Shepherd," Lucy says, walking over to the father and son.
"Well, hello there, Miss Lucy," Cal greets. "You remember my son, Jeremy?"
"Of course. Amanda told me that she invited you. I'm glad you could both make it."
"Yeah, so am I, Miss Lucy," Cal says.
"Christopher!" Yells an excited Michael when he sees Christopher coming. Michael runs and hugs him.
"Hey, buddy, how are you?" Christopher asks.
"Fine. Since Lucas is my real dad, does that make you my uncle?"
Christopher smiles. "Yeah, buddy, it does."
"Awesome!"
"Hi, Christopher," Heather says.
"Hello, Heather. Lucas. So, I guess the two of you are......."
"Yes, we are," Lucas replies.
"Well, congratulations," Christopher says, not sounding entirely convincing.
"Thanks," Lucas says.
"Well, would you guys mind if I take Michael and show him the new horse we got before the wedding starts?"
"Of course not," Heather replies.
"Come on, buddy," Christopher says, taking the little boy by the hand as they walk away.
"Was it me or was that awkward?" Heather asks.
"That was awkward," says Lucas.
Ann walks over to the couple. "Hello, Lucas. Heather," she says.
"Hi, Ann."
"Mrs. Ewing."
"Ann, have you heard from Emma at all this week?"
"Yes, as a matter of fact, I have. She's still in San Francisco, and she didn't say when she'd be back."
"What could she be doing there?"
"I don't have any idea. If you're really concerned, Lucas, why don't you call and ask her? Excuse me." Without another word, Ann walks away.
Heather sighs. "Maybe this wasn't such a good idea, us comin' here together like this."
"That's crazy," says Lucas. "Everyone's just gonna have to get use to seeing us together, and that's all there is to it."
"Look, if things are gonna be too awkward, I should just leave....."
"No. Heather, You leave, I leave. Family or no. It's as simple as that."
Heather smiles, then gives Lucas a quick kiss.
"Hello, Bobby," Marilee says.
"Hello, Marilee. I'm a bit surprised to see you."
Marilee smiles. "Well, I'm surprised to here. John Ross invited us, actually."
"I see," Bobby says, attempting to be pleasant.
"Bobby, I don't believe you know my son, Bradley."
"Bradley and I met at the Oil Baron's Ball," Bobby says.
"Yes, we did," Bradley says.
"Well, enjoy yourselves. Excuse me." Bobby flashes an insincere smile at the two, then turns and walks away. Spotting John Ross at the bar, Bobby walks over to his nephew. "John Ross, may I ask what the hell you're doing?"
"I'm havin' a drink, Uncle Bobby. What's it look like?"
"I mean, inviting Marilee and Bradley Stone here?"
"Come on, Uncle Bobby. Brad Stone is gonna be doin' business with Ewing Oil since we now jointly own that Waco field. Sine he's a business associate, I figured it was only fittin' to invite him and his mama."
"John Ross...."
"Uncle Bobby, my Daddy use to tell me about an old sayin' that Grandpa Jock used all the time.......keep your friends close, but your enemies CLOSER. If Brad Stone is plannin' on seekin' some kinda revenge against our fam'ly for his daddy's suicide, then we need to have that man as close as possible to find out what he's up to. Besides, I've come up with a little plan of my own to neutralize Brad Stone so he won't cause us any trouble at all. Just trust me." John Ross smiles, then walks away.
"Just trust me?" Bobby asks after John Ross is gone. "Comin' from John Ross, that's an even scarier sentence than it was comin' from J.R."
Upstairs....
"Oh, my," Ann says. "You two look wonderful."
"Just about," Sue Ellen says. "The men just went outside and Bobby will come and get you in a minute."
"Sue Ellen and I just wanted to see the two of you before the ceremony," says Ann.
"Now, have you both gotten your traditional something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue?" Sue Ellen asks.
"No, we were just gettin' to that," Cally replies. "Amanda, as my new daughter-in-law, I want you to have somethin' that I have cherished for a long time." Cally opens her purse and pulls out a pair of beautiful pearls. "I was wearin' these on my weddin' day to J.R. 27 years ago. I want you to wear 'em now."
"You're welcome, sweety."
"Now, for something new," Sue Ellen says. "Amanda, we've certainly had an interesting history. First you were my daughter-in-law, and now you're about to become Cally's. For something new, I bought this pair of earrings for you, for your wedding." Sue Ellen hands her a box and opens it.
"Thank you, Sue Ellen."
"For somethin' borrowed," Ann says. "I wore this bracelet when Bobby and I were married almost 11 years ago. I want you to wear it now."
"Ann, it's lovely. I don't know what to say. You've all made me feel so welcome in this family, even after what I did to John Ross last year."
"That's all in the past," says Sue Ellen. "Here's your something blue. A blue garter."
"Thanks."
"And now, on to Jill," Ann says.
"For the something old, she's already wearing my wedding dress," Kimberly says. "But sweetheart, I also wanted to be the one to give you something new, as well." Kimberly takes a small box from her pocket and opens it, taking out a lovely charm bracelet.
"Mom, it's gorgeous," Jill says.
"I had it made especially for you, for today."
"For something borrowed," says Sue Ellen. "Jill, I think it's only fitting that you wear THESE pearls on your wedding day." Sue Ellen opens a box she holds in her hands and reveals another pear of pearls. "J.R. gave these to me about three years ago. They belonged to your grandmother, Miss Ellie."
Jill looks at the pearls and chokes back tears. "Sue Ellen, I don't know what to say. I really don't. They're just lovely."
"I think Miss Ellie would be very proud, and very pleased to see her granddaughter wear these on her wedding day, especially her wedding to Harv Smithfield's grandson."
"Thank you," Jill says, hugging Sue Ellen. Just then, a knock comes at the door.
"That must be Bobby," Ann says.
"We'd all best get outta here," says Cally.
Ann opens the door and Bobby walks in. "The rest of you ladies had better get down and take your places. I just came for my niece and my future niece-in-law, since I was given the great honor of giving both away today."
"We're going," Ann says as she, Sue Ellen, Cally, Kimberly, and Tess all walk past him and out of the room.
"You girls ready?" Bobby asks.
"All set, Bobby," replies Amanda.
"Well, your future husbands are waitin', so let's get this show on the road."
A few minutes later....
“Honored guests," the middle aged minister begins. "We gather to participate in a ritual tradition now practiced in nearly every culture or creed throughout humanity, -albeit with some variation, the formal declaration and celebration of marriage. There is no greater ceremony than that of a pairing of two people in love, in this case, four; a union not of statute, class, obligation, or obeisance, but a mutual bond of love, wherein both parties hope to honor, cherish, and embrace the other indefinitely as they sail into the unforeseeable future. Justin and Amanda, Jay and Jillian thank you for your presence here today and now ask for your encouragement, and support, for their decision to be married. They are grateful that each of you could share this day with them, and they are especially honored that friends and family have traveled great distances to be here."
Meanwhile, no one has seen that Jay's cousin, Todd Baxter, has arrived at the wedding. Todd quietly takes a seat on the back row.
Meanwhile, the minister continues: "Justin and Amanda, Jay and Jillian, remember that no ceremony can create your marriage; only you can do that, through your consent and cooperation. What this ceremony can do is to witness and affirm the choice you make to stand together as partners. And now we come to it…"
The minister looks at Justin. "Will you, Justin Randall Ewing, take this woman to be your wedded wife, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, in conflict and in tranquility, in poverty and in prosperity, placing her above all others, from this day forward?"
Amanda smiles at him.
The minister then turns to Amanda: "Will you, Amanda Lynn Shepherd, take this man to be your wedded husband, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, in conflict and in tranquility, in poverty and in prosperity, placing him above all others, from this day forward?"
"I will," Amanda says.
Sitting in the audience, Cal Shepherd and his son Jeremy watch. "Should've been you givin' her away, not that other dude," Jeremy whispers to his father.
"Shhhh, just shut the hell up," Cal whispers back.
The minister turns to Jay: "Will you, Jay Harvey Smithfield, take this woman to be your wedded wife, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, in conflict and in tranquility, in poverty and in prosperity, placing her above all others, from this day forward?"
"I will," Jay says.
The minister turns to Jill: "Will you, Jillian Renee Cryder, take this man to be your wedded husband, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, in conflict and in tranquility, in poverty and in prosperity, placing him above all others, from this day forward?"
"I will," replies Jill.
The minister continues: "Two people in love do not live in isolation. Their love is a source of strength with which they may nourish not only each other but also the world around them. And in turn, we, their community of friends and family, have a responsibility to this couple. By our steadfast care, respect, and love, we can support their marriage and the new family they are creating today. Will everyone please rise."
The assembled guests all stand.
"Will you who are present here today, surround Justin and Amanda, Jay and Jillian, in love, offering them the joys of your friendship, and supporting them in their marriage?"
"We will," the entire group says in unison.
"You may be seated," the minister tells the guests. "Before I ask you to recite your vows, I’d ask you to remember that love – which is rooted in respect, trust, and acceptance – will be the foundation of your deepening relationship. Learn to appreciate your differences and strive to make the important things matter and to let go of the rest. Keep the vows you take here today, not because of any external authority, but out of a desire to love and be loved by another – and your life together will be joyful. Please both men place the rings on your brides' finger, and repeat after me." He turns to the two grooms: "I, Justin, and I, Jay take you, Amanda, and you, Jillian, to be my wife. I will work to create a bond of honesty, respect, and trust that grows along with us. I vow to honor and respect you for all that you are and will become, taking pride in who we are, both separately and together. I will love and cherish you through all the days of our lives, until we are parted by death."
Both men repeat the words the minister has said in unison as they look into the eyes of their brides.
"Now, ladies, please place the rings on your grooms' finger, and repeat after me," the minister says. "I, Amanda, and I, Jillian, take you, Justin and you, Jay, to be my husband. I will work to create a bond of honesty, respect, and trust that grows along with us. I vow to honor and respect you for all that you are and will become, taking pride in who we are, both separately and together. I will love and cherish you through all the days of our lives, until we are parted by death."
The two brides also repeat the vows. Afterward, the minister continues: "By the power vested in me by God Almighty and the great state of Dallas, I do now pronounce that you Justin and Amanda and you, Jay and Jillian, are husband and wife. Husbands, you may kiss your brides."
As the closing march begins to play, Justin and Amanda, Jay and Jill each kiss as the guests look on happily. Then the two couples march down the isle as the crowd cheers and claps.
As they pass by the last row, Jay stops when he sees Todd standing there. Jay smiles. "Seeing you here just made my day complete."
"I just had to come see my best friend get married," Todd says.
Jay touches his cousin's hand, then smiles and he and Jill continue on as they follow Justin and Amanda back to the house.
Later....
"Well, cousin Leslie," Todd says, taking a sip of his bourbon.
"That certainly was a beautiful wedding, wasn't it?"
"Oh yeah, just lovely. Your brother........I'm sure he and Jill will be very happy."
"I hope they will," Leslie says. "Todd, Jay told me about what happened last year, with John Ross Ewing. I'm sorry."
"Did he tell you everything?" Todd asks.
"Well, what he didn't tell me, my Dad did. Todd, it's okay. Look, if you needed someone to talk to, you could have always come to me or gone to Jay. We'd never have judged you."
"Thank you. Maybe if I could turn the clock back a year, I would've done things differently."
"Hey," Leslie says. "I think you've had more than enough to drive. When you're ready to leave, let me know and I'll drive you home."
"I'm ready to get outta here now," Todd says. "Don't think I can stand seeing John Ross strut around here any longer."
"Okay," says Leslie. "Just let me go tell Jay and my parents, and then we'll go." Leslie walks away, and Todd again returns his gaze to watching John Ross as he walks around.
Meanwhile, as Krystina shares a dance with Brad Stone, John Ross spots Marilee chatting with a couple of old friends and walks over.
"Well, well, Marilee, I'm glad you and Brad could make it," he says.
"Hello, John Ross."
"Could I have a private word with you?" John Ross asks. "Would you folks excuse us for a minute, please?"
The man and woman Marilee had been chatting with nod and walk away.
"John Ross, what do you want?" Marilee asks, annoyed. "I was catching up with two very old and dear friends I hadn't seen in years, and you......"
"Shall we go into the house, so we can talk more privately?" John Ross asks.
Marilee looks at him and sighs. Then she follows John Ross through the crowd, onto the patio and through the sliding glass doors into the house.
"No, all I want is to find out why you dragged me away from my friends and in here," says Marilee.
John Ross pours himself a bourbon, then looks at Marilee with a smile. Then he pours her a glass of bourbon and hands it to her. "Go on, take it. You might need it."
Marilee reluctantly takes the drink from his hand.
"Marilee, you still own those wells over in Johnson County?"
"How the hell did you know about those Johnson County wells?"
"Now, Marilee, you knew my Daddy. And he taught me just about everything he knew. Including findin' out all you can about somebody you wanna do business with."
"John Ross, you and I have NO business together."
"Oh, but we do. See, you do still own those three wells. You never sold 'em when you sold Stone-Hurst Oil those many years ago. I also know that you were plannin' to turn those wells over to your son."
"That's right. I kept those three wells because they were among the first wells my Daddy owned when he got into the oil business. Why are you so interested in those wells?"
"Because I want 'em," John Ross replies.
Marilee laughs, then puts her drink down on a table. "Well, sorry, young man, but those wells are NOT for sale. Excuse me."
"Marilee, everyone has a price. And I believe your price.......is your son."
"Meanin' what?" Marilee asks, getting angry.
"You and Brad have had your share of troubles. He resented you for shippin' him off to boardin' school just as soon as he was old enough to wipe his own nose. And he just came back into your life. How do you think he would feel if he knew that his own mama had lied to him all his life about who his daddy really is?"
Marilee walks over to him. "What the HELL are you talkin' about?"
"You're out of your damned mind. SETH was Bradley's father."
"Nope, we both know that's a lie. And I'm sure if Cliff and Brad knew, they'd both be willin' to take a DNA test to prove, or disprove it. You already have enough problems with your son, Marilee. My guess is that Brad would never forgive you if he finds out you cheated on the man he thought was his father, and then lied to him all these years, on top of everything else. So, what do ya say? Can we do business? Those Johnson County wells in exchange for my silence about Barnes bein' your son's daddy?"
"You son of a bitch!" Marilee says as she starts to slap John Ross.
He quickly grabs her hand in mid-air. He smiles at her. "Well, I've been called worse," he says, still smiling his most devious smile at his latest blackmail victim.
As John Ross holds her hand tightly, Marilee glares at him with blood in her eye, mad enough to kill John Ross....
